General Background: Primary mathematics instruction requires visual learning tools to help students comprehend mathematical concepts beyond rote memorization. Specific Background: Fourth-grade students frequently memorize geometric formulas without understanding area as the number of unit squares covering a surface. Knowledge Gap: Traditional textbook instruction fails to bridge the gap between visual image representations, unit squares, and mathematical area formulas. Aims: This report documents the implementation of image-based learning media integrated with a three-minute exit ticket to improve fourth-grade students' understanding of plane figure area and classroom discussion participation. Results: Implementation data demonstrates that discussion participation increased from forty percent to eighty-eight percent, calculation accuracy rose from fifty-five percent to eighty-five percent, and successful exit-ticket scores climbed from fifty percent to eighty-two percent. Novelty: The work couples structured visual shape observation with rapid formative three-minute exit tickets tailored specifically for lower-grade geometry learning. Implications: Educators can adopt visual media toolkits and rapid formative reflections as an effective pedagogical alternative to enhance conceptual clarity and active participation in primary mathematics classrooms.
Key Findings Highlights
- Visual image media successfully transforms abstract geometric formulas into concrete unit-square comprehension,
- Structured group discussions and rapid exit tickets significantly elevate student participation rates,
- Formative exit tickets effectively reveal conceptual confusion between area and perimeter.
